After the initial success of our Monkey video, we were reengaged to carry out customer interviews at in Boston and New York City. Our strategy was to connect with their clients at Geode Capital Management and Pavia & Harcourt LLP to tell the story of how they found out about FHM, their transition to the platform, how they're working with it today and into the future. Healthcare administration is traditionally frustrating, tedious and overly cumbersome. In many cases, small and medium-sized businesses have to wade through far more hassles, paperwork, tracking and just general rigamarole to get to the same place that large corporations are more easily afforded through support and technology.

We used to-the-point anecdotes, bold lettering and colorful location b-roll to transition and fun music to drive the pace.

Something Brand New

Fidelity Investments came to BEAM Interactive with a challenge. They wanted to create an app for millennials to be able to mange finances on their own within an app that managed finances algorithmically with human assistance. It’s name - Fidelity Go. An automated-investing service designed to help people invest. Since BEAM has top-end expertise in Strategy, User Experience / User Interface and Design, we helped Fidelity to develop those key areas for their newest venture into the digital investing space. Then, the partnership decided that a video to explain everything we created — needed to be created. That’s where I stepped in as Producer, Director and Editor.

Over the course of two days, we were able to shoot about 7 scenes with Trish, our Millennial investor saving for a down-payment on a house. We shot at BEAM’s offices, out on the streets of Boston and at a high-end bachelor pad in Boston’s South End. It was cold and in the middle of Winter, but we made it work. Desiree Santos was our main subject, and our supporting actor was Trish’s Mom (Des’s actual Mom). My colleagues Ben Heald (DP), Jason Walsh (Gaffer) and Charlye Cunningham (Producer) helped to pull the production together during the shoot days with Creative Direction from Will Harris.

Thereafter we iterated. The app itself was being designed concurrently, so we shot green screen with tracking marks on the iPad, then added the final concepts that BEAM was creating in Post. VFX were done with the help of After Effects extraordinaire, Colin Jackson and Engine Room Edit in Boston’s Back Bay.

All in all, it turned out fantastically. Our client felt it was a great way to sell the idea internally within Fidelity’s executive organization. The product itself was met with super-positive feedback from stakeholders and they are continuing to roll it out as of this writing.

Fidelity Managed Accounts

After the success of our first video with Fidelity Investments, Fidelity Go, our client came back to BEAM to produce another video for their largest and most important line of business, Fidelity Managed Accounts.

The challenge was fairly simple. Develop and produce a piece that highlights and communicates the value of a Fidelity Managed Account. 

Andy Primeau and Dave Batista wrote and developed a script, and created a storyboard with the help of the super-talented Yaoming Hao. We then shot the piece in three locations over three days. Sleepwalk Films and TESstylist were instrumental in getting through our production days.

It was a huge success. Clients and agency were equally pleased with the results. It’s been my biggest production to date and I can’t wait to do another like it.

A monkey on your back

Fidelity Health Marketplace aims to help employers, regardless of size, offer employees the variety of products they need to feel secure about their financial future. Fidelity Health Marketplace offers the same level of support and security that large corporations command, at any scale.

FHM came to BEAM to help carry that message through video. Our strategy was to connect with employers and HR administrators alike in order to connect and convey FHM’s understanding of the frustrations within healthcare administration. In many cases, small and medium-sized businesses have to wade through far more hassles, paperwork, tracking and just general rigamarole to get to the same place that large corporations are more easily afforded through support and technology.

And what better to convey these commonly shared frustrations through Andy Primeau’s idea: Healthcare Administration is a Monkey on Your Back.

Yao, Andy and I worked together to get our Monkeys just right. Yao illustrated every possible angle and expression that we perceived our Monkey could be and have. Then, we contracted with Macaela and the gang over at NewFangled Studios in Charlestown, MA to help us carry out the casting, shoot and animation work. We kept the shoot confined to one day with our customized team.

The result was an eye-catching use of mixed media consisting of animation+live action. The monkeys infiltrated and FHM was there to magically make them disappear.

A Culture of collaboration & DEbate

MFS places a centralized emphasis throughout their entire organization on their company culture. It’s clear that everyone within the company is aligned on that premise.

When BEAM Interactive helped MFS to reimagine their digital presence on their .com, the plan was to produce a beautiful new site and a video dedicated to their most important value: culture.

We worked with Michael Kuell and MFS’s internal video team to produce interviews with MFS’s top brass. The result was an authentic, plain spoken communication of values for current and potential investors to understand and trust.

We were engaged by Quizlet to create a new animation that shows the highly differentiated learning style of the new Quizlet Learn. It's a flash-card type program that propagates and randomizes lesson curriculum so the user is always engaged differently during memorization. Still their most popular video on YouTube, to date.

Can your family members access these documents when you cannot? That's what Fidsafe alleviates for individuals and their loved ones.
